P-Trap Replacement in San Francisco: Sink Drain Repair Before and After

October 22, 2026 24sfhandyman No Comments

A leaking or disconnected sink drain is one of the most common repair calls we get in San Francisco. This job shows the three stages: the drain pipe disconnected under the sink, a new chrome P-trap installed, and a white protective cover added over the finished trap.

What a P-trap does

The P-trap is the curved pipe under your sink. It holds a small amount of water that blocks sewer gas from coming back up the drain, and it catches small items that fall down the drain. When it is loose, cracked, corroded or missing, you can get leaks, slow drains, bad smells and water damage inside the cabinet.

The three stages of this repair

  1. Before: the drain was disconnected from the sink, with the trap pipe lying loose in the cabinet.
  2. P-trap installed: we fitted a new P-trap, reconnected the drain to the sink and the wall, and checked the connections for leaks.
  3. White cover added: we added a white protective cover over the trap so the pipework looks clean and the connections are protected from bumps and stored items.
